An Obscure World

Is there an ocean sweeter
Than the one we're drowning in?
Let yourself succumb to the winter
Icing the waters around your skin
And you can find me on the moon
Floating on the Sea of Tranquility
I'll doze off watching the noon
It's young rays comforting me
And when I awake
It will all look pretty
I sleep alone
I will sleep alone forever
I sleep alone
I will sleep alone forever
I sleep alone
(I sleep alone)
I will sleep alone forever
(I sleep alone)
I sleep alone
(I sleep alone)
I will sleep alone forever
(I sleep alone)
But when I awake
It will all look pretty

A Poem About Birds

I. THE OUTSIDER
Ever drifting on swirling wind currents
Between gaps of summer and windows of liveliness
Looking inward, I wait to prey on stray laughs
After consumption, I trade orbits
Shy as a shadow and detach
II. A DREAM ABOUT BIRDS
I saw you perched there up on top a stalwart branch
I meant to study but you made it clear I should not advance
So I retreated and my backwards steps fell down one's throat
I unlocked my ankle, but left them crushed
And I washed off the guts when I got home
III. A POEM ABOUT BIRDS
Pine clad and unwavering,
You feel the air
Cascade off your feathers
Your jigsaw silhouette
Mends a barren sky
As you seek your next endeavor
Bathed in serendipity
You unfurl wings
In this comfort you care not to leave
Save your autonomy
Grace those peaks
I will never see myself reach

Rogue Planet

We were ejected by unimaginable force
As we moved onward I sensed the fleeting warmth
And you were honest but I couldn't see
I was too haunted by our new trajectory
How will I know when tomorrow comes?
How can I stay grounded if I orbit no sun?
If you ever figure out where we're going
I need something to stop my atmosphere from snowing
We're the only remnants of our neighborhood
I thought those arms embraced us but I misunderstood
I'm getting used to an ever-dimming sky
But don't say you knew me like you know the sunrise
How will I know when tomorrow comes?
How could we be splintered when we're both so young?
If you ever figure out where we're going
It's everything I can do to keep from imploding
But don't tell me you knew me like you knew the sunrise
Please don't tell me you knew me like you knew the sunrise
Don't tell me you knew me like you knew the sunrise
Please don't tell me you knew me like you knew the sunrise
Don't tell me you knew me like you knew the sunrise
Please don't tell me you knew me like you knew the sunrise
Don't tell me you knew me like you knew the sunrise
Oh, please don't tell me you knew me like you knew the sunrise

I see us clear
In a sequestered town
With liquid wares
For intrepid routes
You enchant it well
With spells of alchemy
And we share it all
With our sharpened teeth
But for now
I'll relay my thoughts to the wind
And I'll fish solace out of the marks
You left in my skin
You kept me warm
In your bear-hug grasp
While the waking world
Begged to collapse
And my vision filled
With Queen Anne's lace
Like the mountain side
On a snowy day
I want to always feel
How I felt in Ann Arbor
And you cured the arid ground
By making the clouds burst
It's getting tough now
But I never thought it would be easy
It's getting tough now
But I don't think I'll ever believe
It's getting tough now
I can feel my mouth dripping with blood
It's getting tough now
And there's still time for me to fuck it all up
